Seminar on a more democratic United Nations

21 Sep 2020
15:00-18:30 CET

Università di Padova
Online & Padova, Italy

To overcome these challenges and avoid new disasters we need solidarity, dialogue and international cooperation. Yet multilateralism, the UN and the whole international system of protection of human rights built in the last 75 years are under a very serious attack.

This seminar will discuss this challenge in connection with prospects of making the UN more democratic. Topics are:

  • The United Nations between the crisis of multilateralism and demand for democratization
  • Towards a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly
  • Universal Convention for the strengthening and democratization of the United Nations
Speakers include, among many others, Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marina Sereni, and Members of Parliament Pier Ferdinando Casini from Italy and Fernando Iglesias from Argentina. The Executive Director of Democracy Without Borders, Andreas Bummel, will introduce the proposal for a UN Parliamentary Assemby.

The seminar will be held in Italian with simultaneous translation into English and online participation is possible.
