International organisations and multilateral collaboration have come under increasing pressure. This online panel will discuss whether more citizens’ participation at the UN is a key to turn the tide. Panelists will discuss the proposed UN World Citizens’ Initiative and explore what role such a new instrument could play to strengthen the UN and make it more responsive and democratic.
Confirmed panelists include Livingstone Sewanyana, UN Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order; Soo Suh, Program Manager at the Asia Democracy Network; Agustin Maggio, Global Lead for Collective Climate Action at Greenpeace; and others to be confirmed. The event will be introduced and moderated by Andreas Bummel, Executive Director of Democracy Without Borders.
This session is organized by Democracy International as part of this year’s Online Forum on Modern Direct Democracy.
