On the occasion of the high-level week of the 76th UN General Assembly, Global Call to Action Against Poverty in collaboration with numerous civil society organizations will host a virtual Global People’s Assembly.
This session organized by Democracy Without Borders with CIVICUS, Coalition for the UN We Need and Democracy International will identify and discuss action to move forward the We The Peoples campaign for inclusive global governance and the campaign’s three proposals: a UN World Citizens’ Initiative, a UN Parliamentary Assembly and a UN Civil Society Envoy. Participants of the action session are expected to be familiar with and supportive of the campaign.
Action items that will be explored include increasing civil society support, reaching out to members of parliament and launching a grassroots mass petition. Participants will be asked to assess these action ideas, provide additional ones, and to clarify how they can contribute.
The session will also consider the recent report Our Common Agenda presented by the UN Secretary-General in light of the campaign’s demands.
